Can you believe it’s been almost 9 months since the Palo Alto adapter was last available? Sorry guys, so many things happened in the last few months and it wasn’t very high on the priority list. In fact even this time around we only have a few dozen available right now. Below are a couple of examples from my Sony HX9V with the Palo Alto adapter on the Shur-Line Painters Pole.
Shot with Palo Alto
Palo Alto (loosely translated means Tall Stick) is a custom machined steel adapter designed to fit on my favorite telescoping Shur-Line Painters Pole so that I could elevate my Camera for some very interesting low aerial perspectives. It extends from just 4 feet to 9 feet with a single button, and then collapses back down just as quickly. Of course if you’re holding it overhead with arms extended, you can see how you can elevate your camera to 15ft+. You can catch another glimpse of this Pole in action during the GoPro flat lens test (here).

The new version of the Palo Alto adapter offers a slightly larger stage to support Ball Heads with the 1/4″x20 male stud. It need only be hand tightened, but it’s also notched in case you want to firm it up with a crescent wrench. The adapter was machined to fit the Shur-Line Painters Pole, but almost every painter pole uses the same threading.
You can attach a mini ball head for more angles, a friction arm, or mount your small cameras directly (great for GoPro Cameras). It’s fairly useful for Real Estate or Landscape hobbies. Others have found a way to use an LCD at the bottom of the pole to monitor video from the camera above. You can find the Palo Alto adapters available at http://PhotographyandCinema.com (click here).
